Agenda Item-I “Addressing the Rights and Social Inclusion of Climate-Induced Migrants”

Climate change has become a major driver of displacement of millions of people across the world. According to the UN refugee agency, estimates that 21.5 million people are displaced by climate change related disasters every year more than twice the number of those forced to flee conflict or violence.People who move due to climate change out of necessity rather than free choice, are at higher risk of human rights violations.Despite the urgency and scale of this issue, there currently is no legal status under international law to protect climate refugees.Existing efforts to protect, promote and integrate persons displaced due to climate change are simply not meeting the magnitude of the situation. It is imperative to recognize this reality and take practical measure to protect the rights of those affected by climate change, including the migrants.

Agenda Item-II  Rebuilding Civil Society in Post-Conflict Syria”

The end of the authoritarian regime in Syria offered that unprecedented opportunity to societal transformation, accountability and healing. The Assad regime, more than a decade of civil war, has deeply weakened civil society and public voice. Therefore, the new period not only requires rebuilding political institutions but also building a new, strong society that is central to youth and women’s groups, local media, human rights defenders and ethnic and religious minorities. Enabling long-term peace in Syria is only possible by aiming to establish a justice-based citizenship state. Managing the transition period with Transitional Justice and Missing Persons Commissions that pursue their work based on transparency, inclusiveness, and survivor participation is essential for Syria to achieve a peaceful and sustainable future.
